Sugar: Modern Days Poison!
Dr. Wayne Dyer, the renowned author and speaker in the field of self development refers to sugar in his most recent PBS special on his latest book "Making the Shift" as poison. Poison for the body and the mind.
The most common sugar of course is Sucrose or Table Sugar. It is refined from Sugar Cane or Sugar Beets. We also have Dextrose which is Corn Sugar and High-Fructose Corn Syrup. These are our three main sources of sugar. To a lesser degree we have fruit sugars.
Sugar has been with us for a long time. It is thought the extraction of sugar was first developed in Polynesia around 500 BC and since has spread worldwide until our present day. When sugar first started spreading through Europe it was considered to be an extremely rare spice. Only the well-to-do could afford it at "2 Shillings a Pound". In today's market that's $50 a pound.
To give you an idea of how much sugar is consumed by the average US citizen, in the 1800's it was ruffly15g per day. Today that has increased to 285g. Sugar is in virtually everything we eat and drink. For instance a banana has 11g of sugar in it, a glass of orange juice has 40g of sugar. 25g a day is a good target to shoot for. But you'll need help.
The body loves sugar but does sugar love the body? No! Introduce sugar to the blood stream and the blood-sugar balance is upset. This triggers an immediate rush of insulin to counter sugars effect keeping the balance at a safe level.
It depresses our immune system. Sugar or Glucose and Vitamin C have similar chemical structures. Vitamin C is absorbed and used by our white blood cells. Our white Blood Cells fight our infections. When the amount of Sugar or Glucose in our blood is greater than the amount of Vitamin C more Sugar will be absorbed reducing the white Blood Cells ability to fight infections.
Simple sugars have been seen to aggravate asthma, mood swings, provoke personality changes, nourish nervous disorders, diabetes, and hurry heart disease, gallstones, hypertension and arthritis.
Cancer: this is the big one. Glucose is cancer's preferred fuel. The explanation is quite involve suffice it to say "Sugar Feeds Cancer".
When your immune system is suppressed so is your body's ability to fight this disease.
