Now I know what the first thought out of your mind is - this had to be thought up from a man trying to find an excuse to have more sex... Well I am a man, and yes I have no problem with having more sex with my wife, but that is not why I am writing this article. And maybe sex isn't the Best exercise for losing weight, but there ARE many benefits to having sex, so let's take a look and then you can make up your own mind - continue with the same old exercise or diet, or have you gotten in the mood for some sex?
First let's look at what some good old sex can do for you. Just like a good run on the treadmill, having sex improves your cardio vascular system. I am not talking about just about the rise in your heart beat leading up to sex, but the act itself utilizing many muscle groups within your body thus increasing your heart rate into the optimal zone to help improve your cardio system. Researchers have also found in a study of men that those that had sex twice or more a week were less likely to have a fatal heart attack than those that had sex less than once a month - that may not be the only problem facing those guys.
Second, since we are utilizing all of those muscle groups and raising our heart rate - that's right - you will increase your metabolism thus burning more calories - that's right burning calories is what we are all after in losing weight! So having sex every day for a month, you can lose about a pound just by having some good old sex. Now you say that is not much, but can you think of a more enjoyable exercise that will help you lose weight? Ok, if you answered yes to that you may have some other issues that need to be addressed.
There are also a lot of other health benefits to sex that a lot of people probably don't know about. Did you know that having sex a couple times a week can keep that pesky cold away? Having sex once or twice a week has been linked with higher levels of an antibody called immunoglobulin A or IgA, which can protect you from getting colds and other infections. An apple a day - or - having good romp between the sheets - how about both!
Having sex also promotes self esteem and a higher level of intimacy - I know you say that is a given, but it goes beyond the obvious. Sex actually helps release hormones within a person that promotes bonding between persons and creates a sense of trust which leads to a better feeling about oneself. So I guess sex does build trust on a very basic level, and that is as far as I am going to take that one because I could write a psychology paper going down that road.
OK so Sex may not be the Best Exercise for losing weight, but it will assist in building a healthier you and will help in burning a few calories. I know that there are a lot of other exercises out there that you can reap better benefits, well I guess that really depends on how you rank the benefits. I consider losing weight, promoting better health and building one's self esteem some pretty good benefits - and you get an excuse to have more sex. Come on I am a guy after all.
