Instant Oatmeal Food Combinations

Instant oatmeal is probably one of the greatest foods to eat on a weight loss plan. It's easy and quick to make-- for instant oatmeal, all you need is a microwave, water and a bowl. It's full of fiber and low in calories. And by using a couple of plastic bags, it's convenient to pack and carry.
However, you should not limit yourself to eating the oats by itself. For greater variety and more nutrition, mix it with your favorite foods. To get you started, the following are some quick "mixes" that you can use to get more of a nutritional boost from this convenient food source.
Instant Oatmeal Food Combinations
1. Egg Whites One of my favorites, egg whites and oatmeal are a perfect combination. High in protein with only a trace of fat, this mixture is a great combination of carbs and protein. To include a high quality fat, add a teaspoon of olive oil.
2. Diced chicken breast This is another fantastic mixture of carbohydrates and protein. To insure quick preparation, keep some diced cooked chicken breast in your refrigerator. When you are ready for the mixture, just add it to the oatmeal and water and cook.
But you don't have to stop with chicken breast. Turkey breast works equally as well. In fact any lean meat will make a great combination.
3. Whey protein This mixture is a favorite of many bodybuilders. To prepare, simply mix in the whey protein after you have cooked the oatmeal and you are ready for your meal. I suggest that you go with the whey that doesn't have any added artificial sweetener. The taste of surcalose or aspartame can be a bit overwhelming in my opinion.
4. Soup You don't have to always use water to cook the oatmeal. Soup can work just as well. If you are watching your sodium intake, make sure you go with a brand that has a low amount.
One last point. The instant oatmeal that most of you are use to are rolled oats that are probably made by the Quaker Oats company. These are find, but for even more fiber, go with steel-cut oats. The only drawback is that the cooking time is longer, so you will need to prepared them in advance. However, the quality and nutritional value is higher.
