You've started on your healthy lifestyle change, but find your motivation is starting to lack. Just what can you do to get motivated to continue? First remind yourself that you are not just doing a temporary fix but a permanent lifestyle change. You have to get rid of all your old habits. This is going to be your final weight loss journey.
First, you need to determine what your motivator is. It needs to be a specific reason plus a reason why you are doing this, and it needs to be for yourself.
Possible Motivators:
Getting fit to have the energy to keep up with my kids.
Getting healthy so I can feel better and live longer.
I want to lose 10 pounds before my vacation.
I want to enjoy looking in the mirror again.
I want to get into my little black dress.
I am just so tired of being sore and achy all the time.
I want to get a good nights sleep.
Write your motivator down and pin it on your bathroom mirror so you can read it every morning.
It is also important to chose an exercise that you enjoy. Set yourself a specific goal. I will walk for 30 minutes three times this week. I will ride my bike for an hour on the weekend. Make them attainable, once you have reached the first goals add more or lengthen the time spent exercising. Even a goal to eat vegetables five times this week for dinner is a goal.
If time is an issue, exercise in small amounts. Try to take a walk on your lunch break. Add in sit ups, push ups, leg raises or ball work during the commercial breaks while watching your evening shows. Just get your body moving and you will starting craving for more.
You know you are motivated when:
You refuse that doughnut or cookie at work.
You evaluate your choice before taking that bite or sip.
You check your food journal to see if you have enough calories for the day.
You look forward to getting out of bed to exercise.
You start looking for different exercises to add to your routine.
Fast food take out doesn't look so appealing anymore.
You actually start looking in the mirror again.
You look forward to jumping on the scales.
Getting through the first month is the hardest then once you start to see results and start receiving compliments your motivation automatically increases, and your enthusiasm spreads to family and friends.
