North Americans are getting fatter by the minute. There is actually concern on a national security level in the US that Americans will be too fat to help defend their country if it becomes necessary. There are 2 million people in the US that weigh over 500 pounds. It is amazing that the food that is making them fat is also the food that can help them lose weight. There are certain foods that help the body reduce internal fat and slim down.

Some nutritional experts recognize that for every disease or medical condition that exists, there is at least one country where it doesn't. Obesity is no exception. There are countries where the condition we call overweight does not exist either. There are also countries where overeating also does not exist. If people could just start by switching a few of their unhealthy food choices for healthy ones, their whole life would change.

You may think this is funny but our ancestors did not suffer from a deficiency of chocolate, super-sized meals, fried foods, junk foods or boxed convenience meals. Believe it or not, neither does anyone else. But most people in the US suffer from nutrient deficiencies of phytonutrients, Vitamin C and a whole litany of other necessary nutrients. In fact, some researchers are convinced that most diseases and health conditions come about because of diet and the unhealthy food stuffs that are eaten by large segments of the population. These days, people overeat for a variety of reasons like stress, loneliness, comfort, addiction, and other emotional issues.

Let's look at the first group of fat burning foods you need to add to your diet. Vitamin C or ascorbic acid is a great fat burner. It is found mainly in citrus fruits like oranges, lemons, limes, grapefruits, tangerines and mandarin oranges, in addition to some vegetables. One of the great ways to burn fat, is to drink half a squeezed lemon or lime in an 8-ounce glass of water when you get up in the morning before you eat anything and last thing at night before you brush your teeth. The Vitamin C liquefies, dilutes and breaks up the fat so it can be flushed out of the body. It also works on cholesterol, acting as an antioxidant, flushing it out of blood vessel walls and the heart, so that the liver can break it down and get rid of it.

By increasing the food groups that contain Vitamin C in your diet, the fat-burning capacity is turned on which improves your metabolism. With more Vitamin C in your diet, you'll be experiencing greater health. Another group of foods that will help get you skinny is soybeans. The only problem with soybeans is that most of them are genetically modified. If you can find a natural organic source, eat them at least three times per week. The high source of lecithin found in soy beans prevents your cells from absorbing and accumulating fats. Lecithin also breaks down those deposits in your body.

Pectin, found primarily in apples, but also available in other fruits and berries is the gate that limits how much fat your cells can actually absorb. Because pectin absorbs tremendous amounts of fluid, it stimulates the cells to release their fat where it can be carted off to the liver to be processed. The pectin also protects the blood vessels from laying it down as deposits within their walls. By eating an apple a day, applesauce or shredded apple, you are helping your body process what you don't need more of.

The final food I am going to be discussing today is garlic. By crushing the garlic to release the juices and adding it to your food, you will dramatically reduce your pudgy stores. Garlic can be somewhat anti-social if you eat lots of it on a regular basis, but the health benefits are more than worth it. By using a peppermint essential oil after you eat, you can quell most of it odiferous nature.

As you can see, by making some simple changes in your diet, deciding to let go of one or two of your most unhealthy food habits and adding these foods to your diet, you can lose weight without undue suffering. After all, it's your health to look after.
