If you want to be living a long healthy life, there are two important keys: eating healthy and exercise. Although there are many that believe they are the same thing, this isn't quite true. It is very possible to have a healthy diet with very lazy fitness habits. It is also possible to be physically fit with disgusting eating habits.
Yes it is true that you can lose weight by dieting alone. Although it's not easy. You can even be extremely fit but still carry excess weight. In fact to a great extent the saying "We are what we eat", is true. If we just eat food that is high in fat but low in substance, our bodies aren't going to have the fuel they need to burn the fat. On the other hand, if we don't provide our bodies with the tools it needs to build muscle it doesn't matter how many weights we lift, it's not going to do anything.
When it comes to losing weight, you can achieve the best results by dieting and exercising, as they work together. Exercise will burn those extra calories, while eating the correct diet will supply your body with all the minerals and nutrients it needs to build muscle.
Just remember that since you are also building muscle, although you are losing weight the scales may tell you that you're not. It is essential to remember this during the time that you're trying to lose weight. Don't go by just the scales as this will not give you the exact results. Remember muscle is heavier than fat therefore although you are losing fat if you're building muscle you may not lose weight or you may in fact put extra kg's on. This is the number one thing most people forget and so they feel that they are wasting their time since they're not losing any weight and give up altogether. So remember take into account waste measurements etc as well. Count your success by the overall picture not just the weight on your scales.
So by incorporating fitness into your diet routine you are also enabling your body to burn off any extra calories you may have consumed during the day. This means that if you want to have a small 'cheat' during your day, you can make up for it by burning a few more calories than normal in the evening. This isn't something that should happen often but an occasional occurrence isn't going to make or break your diet.
